With the holiday booking season gathering momentum, a survey by Teletext Holidays has come up with some grim findings – the average UK holidaymaker spends a total of 18 days planning and preparing a holiday – but just six days enjoying it.
The Teletext study finds that Brits take 14 days to choose their destination, and then spend 24 hours sorting out their accommodation, flights and car hire.
A further 28 hours are spent on practical preparations for the trip, and packing, according to Teletext, takes another two full days.
On an average ten-day holiday, the first two days are spent trying to unwind and the last two are plagued with worries about the return to work, with potential flight delays, lost luggage and bad weather adding to the catalogue of woes.
