Beards Bad, Smiles Better

According recent research published by the USA’s Cornell School of Hotel Administration, men working in the hospitality industry would be well advised not to wear beards – hotel guests don’t like them!

Researchers asked a panel of more than 100 people to look at photographs showing a variety of facial characteristics and decide which they believed would make the “most effective” hotel staff.  Clean-shaven men easily beat their hairier counterparts.

Unsurprisingly, men and women “who smile and are attractive” topped the poll but, somewhat startlingly, the researchers recommend that hotel companies should offer employees “genuine smiling training”.

We can do most things at Simon Scarborough Associates, but “genuine smiling training”?  I don’t think so!
